Portal turret action figure2/20/2023 ![]() This is likely to be one of our new favorite desk ornaments around the office and it fits in nicely with the rest of my NECA do-want list. The sentry turrets were a pretty memorable part of the game, and NECA has brought them to life with the same eye for detail as all of the rest of their lines. So expect plenty of trading in the school-yard (and around the water cooler). Each figure comes in a sealed box, and we won’t know which one we got until after we buy it. The turret figures are approx 3″ tall and are expected to start shipping 10/17/12. I like to think Gabe Newell was walking through a zoo and thought “Hey, all of these animals would look great as turrets!” and just went from there. Good Guy GabeĪpparently the idea to make multiple designs came from Valve itself. There are also plush and inflatable versions, but I like plastic. Unless someone makes a better (read: life-sized) version of the toy (or a room alarm) this may be one of the better ways to get a Sentry Turret for your collection. I usually don't comment on the suggested ages on toys, but it says 14+ on the box and I suggest you follow this warning. It just has a decent sound chip, a fantastic sculpt, spindly little legs, and will break if you leave it with a toddler. As an item developed for Think Geek, it's a nifty de facto internet exclusive with no articulation. When it comes to video game figures, it seems that the rule is they will cost you more than similarly sized figures from TV and the movies. Since a life-sized turret is about 40-inches tall, this figure is probably best scaled to 6-7-inch figure lines like DC Universe, Masters of the Universe Classics, and most of NECA's offerings. ![]() The figure says 5 phrases from the game series: ![]() Since I assume you don't work in the dark, this doesn't matter, and it's going to look great. With a little bit of light, it would seem the room lights would keep it from looking like it's being x-rayed. In a pitch-dark room, the entire figure glows red because it has a white, unpainted plastic body. As you can see the red light is bright, but not too bright. Seriously, this thing was practically born to live on your desk at work, until someone steals it. If you know and love the game, this is pretty much an essential purchase.Īs a toy, it's OK- as a desk toy, it's fantastic. ![]() It stands a little over 3-inches tall (nearly 4 if you count the antenna) so it's a pretty sizable little figure. As a collectible figure, it's fantastic- but if you switch the red LED on in a dark room, it's not going to help you see things or avoid tripping over a giant box of unbuilt Zoids kits, which I assume that you also have in your basement. Because as a flashlight, this thing sucks. "I don't hate you." I'm pretty convinced this Sentry Turret is sold as a "flashlight" because it would step on some other Portal license, perhaps NECA's.
